Katrina Kaif to play the lead in new 'Padosan'

The yesteryears’ successful comedy Padosan is being remade with Katrina Kaif in the role of the stunner-next-door, Bindu.

It’s been more than a year since production house Shemaroo Films announced a modern-day remake of the 1968 movie that is one of the cult Bollywood comedies. The remake would star Katrina Kaif as beautiful girl who flunks her exams but learns music earnestly at home from a south Indian music teacher. Paresh Rawal would play the role of the teacher enacted by the legendary Mehmood in the original.

Sanjay Dutt will essay the role of Kishore Kumar while Ritesh Deshmukh would play the smitten Bhola, played by Sunil Dutt .

Neeraj Vora , the man behind the witty dialogues of Hera-Pheri and the director of Phir Hera Pheri , is directing this film. The makers want to keep the charm of the evergreen classic intact and have therefore decided not to stray from the original’s storyline and even keep the songs with same melodies.

The shooting of the movie got postponed in the year 2007 because of Sanjay Dutt’s court case. Now the movie will go on floors at the onset of 2009.
